Who outsmarts whom, Nature or man?

Publish Date: 11/5/2021 4:10:04 PM

Isa Qasim

The weather today is reasonable, on the cool side but dry and no storms and the sun is bright and courteous. But for how long would this last? Why do I say that?

Because Nature's behavior has, in recent months, been far from normal or accommodating. I do not recall that in my lifetime, and my lifetime has been long, that we went through a similar attitude by nature. Very heavy rain, floods, hurricanes, storms, destructive wind and unpredictable temperature, etc. Not to mention the treacherous deluge, pandemic. And when I say nature, does that mean that man has nothing to do with what is happening? Not at all.

The main problem that man has the major hand in creating is global warming. This warming has started with the global emissions caused mainly by fossil fuels produced by the industrial age. So, man's hand has a lot to do with this alarming global situation. However, man's hand is not always devoted to disasters. Efforts are now being made to find ways to address this fatal problem. While all this is taking place, man's hand is busy elsewhere, and busy achieving tremendous advancement.

Wherever you go, and whatever you deal with, there is an electronic device to use. The progress achieved in the cyber world is something that shows that human ability is beyond description. If you are old enough, you'll remember how long it would have taken a person to deliver a message from one continent to another, days, weeks or even months. Now, it takes seconds. And many other benefits.

So, don't you think that, with human ingenuity, means will be found in the cyber world to help temper the effects of nature's outrage? I trust that they will. With the younger generation taking over, the general interest will overcome. And mind you, the younger the better. But, maybe no less important is that man, along with the electronic endeavors, should speed up the action to cut down global emissions.

So, we come to the question: Who outsmarts whom, Nature or man? The opinions expressed in our published works are those of the author(s) and do not reflect the opinions of الحوادث Al Hawadeth Newspaper, Al Hawadeth for Arab Americans, alhawadeth.net or their Editors.
