Shireen Abu Aqla was an active, brilliant and courageous reporter

 Isa Qasim

In Palestine the struggle never stopped. Since early last century, the life of a number of Palestinian leaders and activists ended, one way or another. But has the Palestinian cause waned, or has the aspirations faded? No way. Similarly, over the years, has the aggressors' appetite for aggression, deceit, chicanery, or plans to steal or swallow the Palestinian land or property ended or weakened? Not at all.

Whenever the occupiers succeed in ending the life of a Palestinian leader or activist, they did it with the intention to end the Palestinian struggle and to suppress all liberation means. But here again, have they succeeded? No way.

Shireen Abu Aqla was an active, brilliant and courageous reporter. Certainly, she had been aware of the occupiers malicious and foul intentions and deeds. But nothing could stop her from covering the most difficult and dangerous situations. Her courage is above any description and her determination to present the facts as they are ideal. Again here, the occupiers thought by assassinating this very effective reporter, they would succeed in suppressing the facts about their inhumane acts and unlawful behavior. But what have they achieved as a result of this loathsome behavior?

In fact, what the occupiers did by this act of assassination was to flare up the determination of Palestinians against the brutal occupation. Already the young Palestinians were revolting against the aggression, but this assassination was enough to stir the angry feeling of every Palestinian, and to further strengthen the determination of the young to stand up and never to retreat.

Shireen's assassination will prove that it has further enkindled their determination to free their country and to restore independence, integrity and freedom. The Palestinians are there in their country to stay no matter how rugged the future will be. Furthermore, what the occupiers wanted was to dim the light about the occupation and its brutal effect, but again, have they succeeded?

Not at all. With the determination of the young, their courage and belief in their country, their road is luminous, as if enlightened by the oil of the Palestine olive tree that is there to stay.
